RENTING A SCOOTER AND THE VIA VERDE SYSTEM
When renting a scooter from Love-Scooter or any Portuguese Rent-a-Scooter company, you will be charged a fee for using the automatic toll payment device (Via Verde system).
WHAT IS VIA VERDE?
Via Verde is an electronic automatic toll payment system on Portuguese highways. With an electronic device placed on the scooter rider’s arm, users can pass through toll booths without stopping, speeding up the process and avoiding long queues. Toll fees are directly debited from an account linked to the device, making payment fast and convenient.
IS IT MANDATORY TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE SERVICE?
Since January 8, 2023 (with the enforcement of Decree-Law No. 84-C/2022 of December 9, 2022), it is mandatory for Rent-a-Scooter companies to equip all vehicles with a Via Verde device, and the subscription to this service by the customer has also become compulsory.
Unlike before, when the customer was responsible for paying tolls and SCUT passages, the settlement of these fees is now the responsibility of the Rent-a-Scooter company, which invoices the final amount directly to the customer.

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE SERVICE?
When renting a scooter from Love-Scooter, a service fee of €2.15 per day for Via Verde will be charged to the customer at the start of the rental contract and will be blocked as part of the deposit (€400 or €500, depending on the scooter rented) on your credit card to cover toll payments.
By using the Via Verde device, all toll passages will be recorded automatically. Ten days after the contract ends, the amount corresponding to the tolls used will be charged, and the remaining deposit amount will be released.
If no toll or SCUT passages are recorded during your rental, the service fee will be refunded to you ten days after the contract closure.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
Charging the customer at the end of the rental: The amount spent by the customer on tolls is calculated up to 10 full business days after the toll passage date. For this reason, the security deposit can only be released 10 days after the end of the rental period.
